About Us

The Hebrew Heritage Learning Center is currently a two-man team dedicated to developing and providing resources for the study of the Hebrew Bible (otherwise known as the Old Testament). Although we are not affiliated with any religion or religious organization, Orthodox Judaism would probably consider us to be righteous gentiles; our beliefs are closest to the Jewish faith. We have not given a Statement of Faith because our mission is mainly to provide educational materials for anyone of Judeo-Christian beliefs.

About the Founders

David D. Mahoney has been studying the Bible since he could read. Though raised in a Christian home, he eventually pursued a Jewish understanding of the Bible. Eight years of involvement with a growing non-denominational Christian church allowed him to participate in many religious activities. During this time he completed a two-year course of School of Ministry, participated in many forms of volunteer work, and taught in the children’s ministry. Finally, after many years of his own biblical studies he realized that most Christians neglected a major part of the Bible: the “Old Testament.” His beliefs and his studies quickly became oriented toward Judaism as he left the church. Helping the average Bible believer better understand the Jewish origin of Christian morality is now his goal. He is the main contributor to the religious research and writing of this site. His studies include both Jewish and Christian history and theology as well as biblical criticism, biblical transmission, languages of the Bible, Islamic theology and history, and ancient history. Because of his emphasis on the Torah, he has especially been studying the biblical Hebrew language since 2006.

James J. Mahoney was raised in a Christian home, but the Jewish foundation of the Bible brought him out of the Christian community. Biblical studies have always been a part of his life. Spending many years doing volunteer work at a non-denominational church opened his eyes to some of the abuses that the Bible can be used for. Seeking a better understanding of Christianity led him to carefully study the Hebrew Bible and Judaism. Eventually his beliefs became oriented toward Judaism. In addition to his astute biblical studies, he has acquired a great deal of knowledge in computers and especially web-site design and construction. Consequently he is the manager of this web-site and the technical producer of the artwork on our products, as well as contributing to the religious aspect. His goals are to promote the study and understanding of the Hebrew Bible and the commandments of the Torah.
