The Ten Words (Categorized)

Traditionally known as the Ten Commandments, they are more accurately described as the Ten Words. Several other commandments have been selected from the Torah and listed under each of the Ten Words on this chart. The commandments listed under each of the Ten Words show the broad application of each of them. Care has been taken to interpret each commandment from the original Hebrew. A good example of the difference presented on this chart from a traditional translation is the sixth commandment, “You shall not kill.” Some translations render this word as kill and others as murder. The reason for this is how the word is used throughout the biblical text. It is used to describe both murder (intentional killing) and manslaughter (unintentional killing). Therefore, the sixth commandment has been rendered on this chart as, “Commit no murder or manslaughter.” Although some of the wording is unconventional due to limited space, this wall chart is perfect for a constant reminder of God’s commandments.

Instead of giving a short summarization, however, each commandment has been completely translated. The translation is closely literal to the original Hebrew of Exodus 20.
